Coaches focus upon players
Who focuses upon the coach?
Coach developers have emerged and evolved as a significant accelerator of coaches’ development. They have a wide experience and skill in developing others, challenging and supporting them within a positive, progressive and pragmatic process.
WRU coach developers have been identified for their range of skills and experiences some withing rugby and sports and some for other backgrounds such as business, the military and high performance environments.
Each coach developer has a personal profile explaining who they are, what they do and how they do it. All coach developers have their own approach and work withing the WITTS framework of development.
WRU carries out a matching exercise and suggests the best fit for a coach who then carries out a series of chemistry meetings in order to identify the coach developer who they feel will help them progress the most.
The coach developer then helps the coach to create their personal development plan, supports their development through that plan and challenges them to reflect upon their progress before “going again”.
Some call this process being a “critical friend”
