Catch Pass - Dan Biggar
Catch & Pass with Dan Biggar provides coaches with a step by step guide to preparing players to perform a successful catch and pass. Coaches should use this resource, alongside relevant age grade law variations to ensure players are prepared correctly for playing.
Every player must be suitably prepared both physically and technically to be able to Catch and Pass. It is therefore important to develop players in a logical fashion, through a staged development programme.
Implementing the essential techniques and skills at an early age will ensure a strong foundation for future development and provide a safe environment for players to engage.
The resource is broken down into two stages based on players experience and ability:
Stage 1: catch and grip
Stage 2: passing
Should a player be new to catch and pass, the coach should ensure that the player is able to demonstrate basic technique before moving on to more advanced passing.
Catch and Pass can also be used as an assessment tool as it outlines the progression that the player should undertake in order to perform. Coaches should ensure players are competent at each stage before progressing to the next. If a player does not make it through the assessment (relevant to their age grade law variation), then further training relevant to the experience level of the player should be undertaken.
At all times coaches should ensure that their players are fully aware of the appropriate law variations, and are suitably trained in the correct sequence.
