Building on the successful partnership between Hwb, Minecraft Education and the WRU another engaging and innovative digital programme is to be launched, Minecraft Esports Cymru.
Minecraft Esports Cymru will continue to develop the culture and ethos associated with rugby and ensure this is translated into the new programme. Proving an opportunity for demonstration of mastery, or a sense of community and leadership, Esports can provide many of the same benefits as traditional sports in schools.
Teachers have gamers in their classrooms. And using Minecraft Education for Esports is the perfect platform to introduce inclusive, purposeful, and incredibly fun Esports activities and club programs that will build skills, content mastery and true engagement for all classrooms and schools.
Minecraft Esports Cymru will be made up of five regional leagues (a Primary and a Secondary school league in each region) mirroring the areas of Welsh rugby:
- Minecraft Esports Ospreys league
- Minecraft Esports Dragons league
- Minecraft Esports Blues league
- Minecraft Esports Scarlets league
- Minecraft Esports North Wales league

Each league will be formed from a collection of teams from the region. WRU Hub Officers will be supporting their regional league by promoting, organising and hosting league matches from January 2024. Leading to the National Finals at Principality Stadium on in June 2024.
