COURSE OUTLINE: To provide candidates who have an on-going involvement in coaching rugby union with the necessary skills, knowledge and experience to deliver a coaching programme and demonstrate their rugby union coaching ability. The Certificate offers an opportunity for candidates to be given support to effectively apply the principles of performance profiling, goal setting and designing a rugby union coaching programme including its planning, implementation and evaluation in an active coaching environment.
It also aims to enable the candidate to create an effective coaching environment, establish supportive working relationships and manage the behaviour of players and others. This is achieved through an understanding and the application of the underpinning knowledge of Advanced coaching (Level 3).
The course is face to face with online elements. The WRU will ensure that ALL government guidelines regarding COVID-19 are practiced. You will be informed of any specific requirements regarding COVID-19 upon a successful application.
Sessions will be held at regional venues over a nine month period with compulsory evenings of attendance between the 18:00pm - 21:00pm. There may be a requirement to attend a full day of learning at a venue and date TBC.

Coaches Corner Sessions (informal workshops) will be organised by the regional Coach Development Officer between each formal session to share experiences and learnings. Dates TBC.
The National WRU Advanced coaching (level 3) course will accommodate a maximum of 25 Candidates.
Due to the anticipated demand of course places, priority access will be given to candidates based on the following criteria if applications exceed the allocated numbers:
- Regional Age Grade Coaches (16 – 18)
- Regional based Premiership Coach
- Regional Development Workforce, including:
- UKCC Coaching in Rugby Union Level 2
- Player pathway Development Coaches
- Regional resident
- Regional based Senior/Youth level coach
- Regular attendance at Regional CPD events
- Coaching a community team from youth or senior team
- Out of region applicants
All applications must be submitted No later than Friday 16th August 2021.
All candidates will be notified of the result of their application on 23rd August 2021. Candidates will be expected to pay for the course in full prior to the start date.
