Wheelchair Rugby - Overview

Wheelchair Rugby is a team sport for male and female athletes of all ages with a disability.

The aim is to score tries by crossing the opposing team's try line while in possession of the ball. The ball may be passed, thrown, punted or carried in any direction subject to the restrictions laid down in the rules. The team scoring the most tries by the end of the game is declared the winner.

Formats include a 4-a-side (4's) Paralympic Game, a 5-a-side game (5's) played at the Invictus Games, and a youth    5-a-side offering (8-17).

General Rules:

  • Youth - 8 -18yr olds
  • Senior - 12+ for 4's and 16+ for 5's
  • Two formats - 4 a-side Paralympic Games: Strict Classification | 5 a-side     Invictus Games: More inclusive
  • Contact sport
