WRU DRAGONS CUP

The competition shall be known as ‘The WRU Dragons Cup’. The format and all playing aspects of ‘The WRU Dragons Cup’ (“Competition”) shall be overseen by the Participation Group and governed by the Governance Group of The District A Game Management Group (GMG).

The competition shall be played under the WRU Player Pathway directives and World Rugby Laws of the Game and in accordance with the WRU Code of Conduct relating to the game of rugby.

There is an additional competition for teams eliminated from The WRU Dragons Cup within the first round. This shall be known as ‘The WRU Dragons Plate’. This will ensure that all teams entered in the competition play at least two matches.

All references in this Rules and Guidelines document that refer to ‘The WRU Dragons Cup’ will be deemed to equally apply to ‘The WRU Dragons Plate’. The Cup is open to teams within the Under 12,13,14,15 & 16’s age groups, whose parent Clubs fall under the control of The District A Game Management Group.

All teams wishing to take part in the competition must notify the organisers by the 18th August prior to the first round draw.

All Junior & Youth fixture secretaries are requested to discuss team registration numbers and team capabilities with each coach prior to entering teams into the draw to ensure that they can fulfil the Cup fixtures throughout the season.

Clubs who enter the competition and withdraw without a notable or supported reason, should note that this may impact negatively on future requests for that Club to take part in The WRU Dragons Cup Competition. Once notification has been received, the team will be deemed to have entered the competition and to have accepted the terms and conditions of entry.

Match Day Protocol 

All teams are to submit a squad list, to include, Names, Registration numbers and game day Jersey numbers, at U15/U16's level.

Dragons Cup rules apply to all fixtures which are attached.

Please can all teams arrive 30mins before their first match and report to Chris Cornford/Ashley Sweet (WRU) to confirm attendance.

Warms up are restricted to the dead ball areas and will be reserved for the teams scheduled to play immediately after the current game. Please be mindful of the teams already playing at all times and also please do not obstruct the view of our Official Dragons Cup Photographer.

Absolutely NO parent or adult is allowed to enter the playing area either before during or after a game has taken place.

Group Games are 20 mins in duration, no half time, no conversions, however Drop Kicks and Penalties are permitted.

No photography to take place from within the playing arena as no spectators are permitted on the touchline or on the playing surface, there are 2 official photographers who will be in attendance.

Semi finals are contested over two equal halves and full age related pathway rules apply.

 Maximum of 4 coaches allowed in technical area, where they must remain for the duration of the match, 1 of which is a Physio, who due to the virtue of their role.

 Referees and officials have been appointed by the GMG group for each game.

Any abuse of referee or other officials will result in the person or persons, if identified, being asked to leave the centre immediately.

 As you can see time is of the essence so we would ask that you are pitch side and ready to go 5 mins before your allotted KO time.

 Please be aware that no access is allowed on the playing surface until 9am, to comply with noise restrictions that are in place with the local residents.
