The WRU are committed to providing young women and girls access to rugby provision throughout educational establishments across Wales. We support schools to provide students access  to curricular and extra-curricular rugby all year around. This is additionally supported by the WRU National Hub officer program.

Within our schools programme we offer an opportunity to access rugby through a variety of formats including tag, rugby fit and 7s.

In addition, this October will bring our new Girls in Rugby week from 4th – 8th October.

The WRU run national competitions in which Schools, Colleges, Clubs, Districts and Girls Hubs all have the opportunity to compete for the chance to play at the home of Welsh Rugby, The Principality Stadium.

In 2023, 29 cup finals were played across 10 days throughout April with thousands of fans flocking to the stadium to support their teams.

This competition is available for schools to enter the following age groups:

U12s (Year 7)

U14s (Year 8 & 9)

U16s (Year 10 & 11)

U18s (Year 12 & 13)

The competition starts on a Regional level, in which teams have the opportunity to advance to a National Finals day that is held in South Wales, with the top two teams from each age group going through to play at the Principality Stadium.

In addition to the above competitions, a variety of regional events are run throughout the academic year. If your school is interested in entering any competitions or events, please contact your local Women & Girls Rugby Officer.

Further to WRU competitions, if you are interested in rugby in further education, there are variety of rugby opportunities in colegs and universities. Please contact your local coleg or university for more information.
